Breakfast in French!

Again we go to France – in fact with my last guest of my event, the lovely Lea from Escape Town! Today’s recipe is perfect for everyone who loves a sweet and extensive breakfast. 🙂


French breakfast dreams

Every now and then it comes over me. This craving for a lukewarm pastry with soft chocolate. The darker the better. Maybe it’s just the memory of Mauritius, Lyon or Chamonix. No matter where you go, where the French have been or still are – you don’t only find baguette there, but also the sweet delicacies from the bakery.


Recipe for Pain au chocolaté


Because the original recipe is a bit costlier, I got the perfect recipe from a French friend to satisfy this chocolate appetite with minimum effort.

Pain au chocolaté

Vorbereitungszeit 10 minutes
Zubereitungszeit 5 minutes
Arbeitszeit 15 minutes
Portionen 1 piece

  • 1 bar favorite chocolate (a good one!)
  • 1 roll puff pastry
  • some chopped almonds
  • 1 whisked egg


  1. Place the chocolate in the middle of the puff pastry. Cut the dough in shape, just like on the photo. This requires a little concentration, the more exact you cut the stripes on the side the easier it is to fold the pastry. Fold the dough over the chocolate, one stripe from the right, one from the left and so on.

  2. Now spread the egg with a brush on the dough. If you like you can sprinkle it with chopped almonds. Place it in the preheated oven at 180 °C until golden. Be careful, it probably won’t take long.

  3. The chocolate roll tastes warm (with liquid chocolate) just as good as cold with a cup of coffee! A quick indulgence with which you can bring France to your home. Voilà!
